Finding the Funny: Humor Writing and Performance

Thursdays, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM ET

Life is difficult, but it’s better when you can laugh about it. Students will write, workshop, and present five to ten-minute comedic monologues inspired by their real-life experiences. Works and performances from funny people including Mark Twain, Richard Pryor, and Hannah Gadsby, among others will be explored. A live presentation of the final piece will be presented on the last day of class.

Johns Hopkins Tuition Remission Policies

Current and retired full-time Johns Hopkins faculty and staff, as well as their spouses or domestic partners, are eligible for tuition remission. Eligibility details can be found here.

After registration, tuition remission eligibility will be confirmed by the Odyssey registrar. If eligibility cannot be confirmed, you will be required to pay full tuition for the course. Under the terms of the University’s remission program, Hopkins employees must withdraw in writing at least five working days before the first class to receive a 100% refund. ABOUT Alexandra Hewett

Alexandra Hewett is an actor, storyteller, writer, producer, teaching artist, mother, and yogi. She produces the storytelling show Mortified in DC and Baltimore. She wrote and performed her one-woman show Mother Therapy at MCS Theatre in NYC. She has performed at The Manhattan Rep Theatre, DC Fringe Festival, the Kennedy Center, the Baltimore Improv Group, the Magnet Theatre in NYC, and the Strand Theater in Baltimore. She has an MS in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Maryland and an MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts from the University of Baltimore. Her essays have been published by Eight Stone Press, Baltimore Fishbowl, and Welter. Shimmer is her first book.
