ARISE-ing to Advance Health Equity in Illinois
Illinois has been on a long-term journey to advance health equity. As part of a breakthrough opportunity to be a part of 100 Million Healthier Lives, IDPH gave power to a small rural community of color to shape its health equity strategy in one small, and saw truly transformative, multisector, intergenerational change. IDPH leveraged this experience in the context of COVID to transform from the inside as a state agency and to scale this approach to communities to lay the groundwork for Community Empowerment Zones across the state, using the newly released Pathways to Population Health Equity framework (P2PHE), developed by WE in the World, ASTHO and CDC. Developed with health departments and communities across the country, P2PHE helps public health change agents to develop a balanced strategy to address health and well-being, community conditions, and root causes with an equity lens.
