Nurse Practitioner led telehealth to manage chronic conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic 

The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) emerged in December 2019 and, in less than 3 months, evolved to a worldwide pandemic. This virus has spread rapidly, leading to an unprecedented global crisis that shows no signs of abating in the near future. Healthcare settings across the nation have expeditiously transitioning from in-person to telehealth visits to retain access to healthcare for those with chronic conditions. Moreover, telehealth visits can be used to reduce visits to the emergency departments for non-urgent matters, a timely intervention to preserve emergency services for those with severe symptoms. If there is an unseen benefit, it may be the acceleration of the adoption of and expanded use of telehealth, broadening the reach and increasing the efficiency of chronic disease care. Nurse Practitioners are uniquely qualified to lead telehealth visits in efforts to continue managing the chronic conditions among patient populations. The purpose of this educational activity is to highlight nurse practitioner led telehealth medicine and discuss its impact on the management of health for pediatric patients and adults with mental health conditions.
