In 2018, after a formal national search, Dr. Haris Sair was selected to be the Neuroradiology Division Chief in the Russell H. Morgan Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Sair is a Professor of Radiology and his areas of clinical expertise include functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) of the brain. He earned his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Sair completed his residency at Temple University Medical Center and performed a fellowship in neuroradiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
Dr. Sair is known as a translational scientist with an expertise in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), specifically a novel technique called resting state fMRI (rs-fMRI). He has published important work on the feasibility of using rs-fMRI as a clinical tool in pre-operative brain mapping for neurosurgical planning. During his widespread collaborations with radiology and other departments – including neurosurgery, anesthesiology, psychiatry, radiation oncology and emergency medicine – he has published groundbreaking work such as the potential prognostic value of rs-fMRI in predicting patient outcome following anoxic brain injury.
Dr. Sair frequently collaborates with members of other departments on improving clinical operations, and is an active participant in hospital-wide patient safety initiatives. He was also recently awarded the Top 10 Educator in Radiology Award selected by our radiology residents. Dr. Sair also serves as a leader in national organization and was the former Secretary of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. He is currently Affiliate Faculty with the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare and co-founder and co-director of the Radiology Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL).
