Course Title: Declutter Your Home and Free Your Life
Instructor: John Lim, J.D., Bus '14 (MBA)
Brought to you by Odyssey
August 28, 2025 - October 2, 2025 (6 Sessions)
Thursday, 6:00PM ET - 8:00PM ET
Virtual via Zoom
Course Description: Stuff! As a society, we’ve accumulated so much stuff that we now have to rent space for the extra stuff that we can’t fit into our homes. Garages no longer store cars but toys, clothing, furniture, and other accumulated stuff. In this class, I will cover a step-by-step process to declutter your home by employing several strategies, including recycling, repurposing, donating, and selling items you no longer need or want. We’ll look at the history of clutter categories, what causes us to accumulate and store too much of those items, and how we can let go of certain things that are difficult to say goodbye to. By the end of the course, you’ll have a plan to start decluttering your home and free your life (and vice versa).
Each class will explore categories of clutter, ways to minimize or eliminate it, and several philosophies from decluttering and minimalist practitioners, including Marie Kondo, Fumio Sasaki, and Margaretta Magnusson. Students will also have opportunities to share their biggest decluttering challenges so that we can come up with solutions together.
As a courtesy, class sessions will be recorded for students who have to miss a session.
“The instructor was wonderful. Participation was encouraged and friendly, and we were provided tools for decluttering that were inspiring. After each class, I was inspired to take on a decluttering project at home and will continue.”
“Excellent Class. I’ve de-cluttered several times and still learned lots. Highly recommend.”
“John Lim had clearly researched and prepared for the class. He was extremely well organized and easy to follow. He left us with valuable sources we could use in our declutter journey.”
