Co-Founder and CEO

Element Energy

Anthony (Tony) Stratakos graduated from Johns Hopkins in 1992 with BS and MS degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 1998.

Dr. Stratakos founded Volterra, a power management semiconductor company, while a Ph.D. student in 1996 to commercialize his research at Berkeley.  Volterra had a successful IPO in 2004 and traded on NASDAQ until its acquisition by Maxim Integrated Products in 2013.  Tony served as Volterra’s CTO, responsible for technology development and new business incubation.

With Maxim’s acquisition of Volterra, Tony took on R&D roles of increasing responsibility, becoming Maxim’s Senior Vice President and CTO with responsibilities including technology development across a broad range of markets, technologies and applications, new business incubation and central engineering.  New business incubation was focused on renewables, energy storage, power management, point-of-care medical diagnosis, food and water safety, and smart agriculture and included hardware, software (machine learning and decision support) and systems.  Tony helped plan and implement a large transformation of Maxim’s business, technology development and supply chain, resulting in over $15B in value creation.

Dr. Stratakos founded Element Energy in 2017, a battery management systems company focusing on the Utility-Scale Energy Storage and Electric Vehicle markets.  He served as CEO from 2017 to 2025.
