Course Description: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Health are together redefining the boundaries of what is possible in modern healthcare. No longer confined to hospital settings or high-tech labs, these innovations are now part of everyday life—supporting everything from virtual doctor visits and remote monitoring to mental health apps and AI-powered diagnostics. This course invites learners from all backgrounds to explore how these rapidly evolving technologies are transforming care delivery, medical decision-making, and personal health management across the globe.
Frontiers of AI in Healthcare and Digital Health is a six-week interactive course designed for lifelong learners, alumni, caregivers, and professionals who are curious about the future of healthcare. Whether you’re new to the field or simply want to make sense of the technologies shaping tomorrow’s medical landscape, this course offers a friendly introduction grounded in real-world examples and participatory learning.
We’ll explore how AI is rapidly transforming healthcare, becoming essential in areas ranging from radiology to clinical documentation. Autonomous, self-learning AI agents now assist physicians by transcribing visits, predicting health risks, and supporting treatment decisions. Alongside these advances, digital health tools—including wearable devices, mobile apps, remote monitoring systems, and smartwatches—are enabling patients and caregivers to manage health outside of traditional clinical settings. Clinicians are also beginning to prescribe software-based treatments, such as virtual reality therapies and digital therapeutics, for conditions like depression, insomnia, and chronic pain.
As these technologies become more integrated into care, they raise important ethical and policy questions around bias, transparency, data privacy, and legal responsibility. Looking ahead, innovations like AI health coaches, digital twins, and decentralized, blockchain-powered systems could shift power from institutions to patients and communities. This course offers a deep, participatory exploration of these changes, combining guided readings, hands-on AI activities, and inclusive discussions. Learners will gain a foundational understanding of how these technologies work, how to critically assess their impact, and how they are reshaping roles within the healthcare system. They will also develop a thoughtful awareness of the ethical and societal implications, leaving them equipped to engage meaningfully in conversations about the future of healthcare.
