Virtual via Zoom

Offered as part of the Fall 2025 Odyssey Alumni Academy - courses exclusively for alumni and taught by esteemed members of our alumni community and faculty.

Course Description: This interdisciplinary course celebrates the 100th anniversary of The Great Gatsby, and explores the intersection of literature, history, identity and design through the novel. Participants will discuss the novel’s richly described settings and characters, discuss the psychology of home and identity, study Art Deco and Gilded Age influences and explore historical examples of homes of the period.  We will build on our knowledge of Art Deco to also explore the related style of PostModern design, and then translate all that we have learned into personal interior design concepts for our own home or living space.

Participants need: a copy of the Great Gatsby; optional physical sketching or rendering tools (including magazines or collage), or online tools such as Pinterest, Google Docs, Canva, etc.
