2024 Recipient of the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Community Public Service Award
David Heyman is co-founder and CEO of Smart City Works, a venture accelerator focused on developing and scaling technologies that improve urban infrastructure, resilience, and quality of life. A nationally recognized leader in national security, technology innovation, and international affairs, he brings more than 30 years of experience spanning government, business, and entrepreneurship.
Heyman has served in senior leadership roles at the White House and the U.S. Departments of Energy and Homeland Security, where his work focused on some of the most complex challenges at the intersection of security, technology, and public policy. He has also founded and advised technology ventures and serves in leadership roles on municipal, corporate, and international boards.
His expertise and commentary have been featured by major national and international media outlets, including the BBC, CNN, NPR, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. Heyman earned his degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and received the Johns Hopkins Public Service Award in 2024.
