Building Winning Teams: Championship Culture

Peter Milliman is in his seventh season as the Alexander Kuehl ’66 Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse at Johns Hopkins. Named the 23rd head coach in program history in 2020, Milliman has led the Blue Jays to renewed national prominence, including back-to-back NCAA Quarterfinal appearances and Big Ten regular season titles in 2023 and 2024. Johns Hopkins finished both seasons ranked fifth nationally, and Milliman was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2024.

Before coming to Johns Hopkins, Milliman served as head coach at Cornell, compiling a 28-10 record from 2018-20. His teams captured the 2018 Ivy League Tournament championship, advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals, and were ranked second nationally when the 2020 season ended.

Milliman previously held coaching positions at Pfeiffer, Princeton, Siena, RIT, and Cornell. A three-time All-American at Gettysburg College, he helped the Bullets reach consecutive NCAA Division III championship games and later played professionally for the Rochester Rattlers, winning the Major League Lacrosse championship in 2008.

Dan Wodicka, a 2014 Johns Hopkins graduate and former standout wide receiver for the Blue Jays, was named the James F. Margraff Head Coach of Football in 2024. In his first two seasons, he guided Johns Hopkins to a 24-4 record, two NCAA Semifinal appearances, and a Centennial Conference championship. His 2025 team again matched the program record with 12 wins, and Wodicka was named the AFCA Division III Region 2 Coach of the Year.

Wodicka has spent 12 seasons with the Johns Hopkins football program as a player, assistant coach, and head coach, helping the Blue Jays to nine Centennial Conference titles and 10 NCAA Playoff appearances. Before becoming head coach, he served as defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, defensive line coach, and wide receivers coach.

A biomedical engineering graduate, Wodicka earned three All-Centennial selections as a Johns Hopkins wide receiver and was a two-time D3football.com All-South honoree. He finished his playing career with 260 receptions for 3,148 yards and was the program’s career receptions leader at the time of his graduation.

Tim McCormack was named the fourth head coach in Johns Hopkins women’s lacrosse history in 2022. Since arriving at Homewood, he has led the Blue Jays to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including three straight trips to the Sweet 16 and the program’s first NCAA Division I semifinal appearance in 2026.

In 2026, Johns Hopkins set a school record with 17 wins while establishing new program marks for points, goals, assists, and caused turnovers. The season also produced the program’s first Tewaaraton Award finalist since 2007. McCormack’s teams have consistently ranked among the nation’s best and have produced numerous All-America honorees.

Before Johns Hopkins, McCormack spent three seasons as head coach at Arizona State, where he earned Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors twice and led one of the nation’s most notable program turnarounds. He previously served six seasons as an assistant coach at Northwestern.

A former All-American goalkeeper at the University of Massachusetts, McCormack helped lead UMass to a 15-1 record and the nation’s No. 1 ranking as a senior.
