Course Description: This interactive course will introduce students to fundamentals of inclusive development, focusing on women’s empowerment. The course will feature practical lessons from day-to-day professional settings and from international projects advancing women’s empowerment in developing countries (“lessons from the field”) including Nepal and Mali.  By the end of the course students will have an understanding of the intersectionality around women’s empowerment and practical tools to champion women’s empowerment within their respective operational context.

Johns Hopkins Tuition Remission Policies 

Johns Hopkins alumni, staff, faculty and their spouse or domestic partners are eligible for tuition remission for Odyssey lifelong learning courses. Select the correct ticket pricing during registration. Withdrawals & Refunds:

If a course is canceled or closed, the registrant is notified immediately, and a full refund is processed automatically unless another course is requested. Registrants who wish to withdraw from an active course must complete the online Odyssey Refund Request Form. Attach any documentation to support your request (e.g., medical documentation, family crisis documentation, etc.).

  • 100% refund: Prior to the start of the course and after the first class.
  • No refunds: After the first week of each course unless in exceptional cases.

For single-session courses:
100% refundable within two (2) business days of the event.

Please note, refunds apply only to the tuition portion of an Odyssey participant’s charges and are not applicable to any fees or gifts made to the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. Registrants will be notified by email if a refund is approved within five (5) business days.

ABOUT Judith Almodovar

Judith Almodovar has over 15 years of professional experience in the federal government managing international programs. She joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) after earning a BA in Business Administration from The University of Texas at El Paso. As the Deputy Director of the Economic Growth Office in USAID/Nepal, she co-led a $160 million five-year portfolio, focusing on inclusive economic growth, private sector development, and women’s economic empowerment. Before arriving in Nepal, she was the Private Enterprise Officer in the Office of Agriculture and Economic Growth (AEG) at USAID Mali. During her career with USAID, Judith has worked in various offices including Africa Bureau, where she served as the Uganda Country Development Officer and the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs. Judith holds an MA in International Relations and Economics from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and an MA in National Security from the U.S. Naval War College. Judith is passionate about inclusive development and women’s empowerment. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and discovering new music.
