Los Angeles, CA: Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (John Waters: Pope of Trash Exhibit) and Fanny's Reception

Join fellow alumni and friends a little bit of Baltimore, in Los Angeles! We'll gather at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures which is the largest museum in the United States devoted to the arts, sciences, and artists of moviemaking. Global in outlook and grounded in the unparalleled collections and expertise of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Museum offers exceptional exhibitions and programs that illuminate the world of cinema. In partucular, we'll be able to enjoy John Waters: Pope of Trash which is the first comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the Baltimore artist’s contributions to cinema. The exhibition delves into his filmmaking process, key themes, and unmatched style. Works on view include costumes, set decoration, props, handwritten scripts, posters, concept designs, correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, film clips, and more.

After you explore the museum, we'll enjoy a reception at Fanny's Cafe & Restaurant (1pm - 3pm) with light bites and drinks. Soak in as much as you can during your self-guided exploration of the Academy Museum to help prepare for trivia questions during the reception, to win some JHU swag! Due to limited capacity, each registrant will be limited to one (1) additional guest for a total of two (2) per registration form. Registration will close on Monday, May 6th to finalize ticket purchase/reception. 

A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events.  If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu.       

While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event, including vaccination and masking and distancing guidance. Johns Hopkins strongly suggests that attendees who join in person be fully vaccinated. This is subject to change.
