Have you ever wondered how a museum protects artifacts inside a building that is centuries old? Historic houses are architectural treasures, but their drafty rooms, fluctuating humidity, and invasive pests pose a constant threat to historical collections.
Join Collections Registrar Natalie Shores for a look at a specific aspect of collections care. Focusing on four distinct object types, Natalie will discuss how custom-made “armor” protects an eclectic collection from harm. Discover how micro-climate storage, preservation mounts, and pest-proof housing actively defend against environmental and inherent threats to keep history alive.
Natalie serves as the Registrar and Collections Manager for the Office of Cultural Properties, where she facilitates the legal, administrative, and physical stewardship of the university’s campus collection alongside the collections of its two historic house museums: Homewood Museum and Evergreen Museum & Library. Her work centers on collections care, risk management, and the logistical coordination of domestic and international loan operations.
