For the last 18 years, Mr. Detroyer has taught International Business and Entrepreneurship at academic institutions around the world, including the European School of Economics (NYC campus), the Weller International Business School (Paris), Guizhou University of Finance and Economics (China), and the University of Sanya, Sanya (China).
Before his teaching career, Mr. Detroyer successfully founded and exited three companies: in media, in pharmaceuticals, and in global consulting. This followed a 17-year corporate career, first as an executive in ExxonMobil’s consumer products division, and then as General Manager of the U.S. consumer products division of VanLeer Group, a Dutch company.
Mr. Detroyer is a member of the BrainTrust at RetailWire, the retailing industry’s premier online discussion forum. He is also an advisor to the Silk Road Legal Cooperation Network. Gene has been a speaker at conferences and seminars in the U.S. and abroad. He has appeared on CNBC and is frequently quoted in Forbes. He holds a BA from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from the Columbia Business School. He was awarded the Heritage Award as a distinguished alumnus by Johns Hopkins.
