Course Description: Discover the remarkable stories of women whose lives shaped Maryland and the nation; Etta and Claribel Cone, Marcia Crocker Noyes, Dr. Helen Taussig, Virginia Hall, Barbara Holdridge, and Lucille Clifton—trailblazers in medicine, librarianship, espionage, publishing, philanthropy, and literature. Participants will examine how these women overcame barriers, challenged expectations, and left enduring legacies.

Withdrawals & Refunds:

If a course is canceled or closed, the registrant is notified immediately, and a full refund is processed automatically unless another course is requested. Registrants who wish to withdraw from an active course must complete the online Odyssey Refund Request Form. Attach any documentation to support your request (e.g., medical documentation, family crisis documentation, etc.).

100% refund: Prior to the start of the course and after the first class.
No refunds: After the first week of each course unless in exceptional cases.

For single-session courses:
100% refundable within two (2) business days of the event.

Please note, refunds apply only to the tuition portion of an Odyssey participant’s charges and are not applicable to any fees or gifts made to the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. Registrants will be notified by email if a refund is approved within five (5) business days.

ABOUT Meg Fairfax Fielding
Director of the History of Medicine

Meg Fairfax Fielding is the Director of the History of Medicine at the 226-year-old Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of the State of Maryland (MedChi). She also manages their collection of portraits and sculptures of physicians dating to the late 1700s, and the rare book collection, with the oldest dating to 1567. She is a Fellow at the American Osler Society and has lectured there several times. Meg is the author of two books, “Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital, The First 100 Years” and a biography entitled “Marcia Crocker Noyes: The Librarian Who Never Left,” about the librarian who worked at MedChi for 50 years. She is at work on her third book about a historic mansion in Baltimore. In her spare time, Meg lectures on the historic architecture of Baltimore, and loves taking photos with her new companion, Daisy-the-Drone. She frequently attends country auctions, hunting up antique American quilts and English china. Meg is a 13th generation Baltimorean on her mother’s side, and a first generation on her father’s. She has lived in Baltimore for much of her life and loves to explore all parts of the city. She lives in an 1880s farmhouse between Hampden and Roland Park.
