Course Description: Explore love, longing, and tragedy in WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Brontë, JANE EYRE by Charlotte Bronte, and REBECCA by Daphne du Maurier. In this class, we will have lively discussions of each of these three novels as well as a history of the Gothic genre. Also recommended, but not assigned, are Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN and Thomas Hardy's TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES.
Each novel is available in paperback editions.

Lynne Agress, Ph.D., has taught at Johns Hopkins University, Goucher and Smith Colleges, and University of Maryland. She was founder and president of BWB, Inc., a writing and editing consulting company. She is the author of THE FEMININE IRONY and WORKING WITH WORDS and numerous articles and opinion pieces in newspapers and magazines. She currently writes a weekly column for THE BALTIMORE SUN.
