Course Description: From Zeus’s thunderbolts to Athena’s wisdom, from the Minotaur’s labyrinth to the epic journey of Odysseus, Greek and Roman mythology has shaped storytelling for thousands of years. In this engaging six-session course, we’ll explore the gods, heroes, monsters, and legendary tales that continue to influence books, films, and popular culture today. Through lively lectures, images, video clips, and discussion, participants will uncover the origins of famous myths, examine their deeper meanings, and discover why these ancient stories still resonate in our modern world.

Johns Hopkins Tuition Remission Policies 
Tuition benefits are available to University faculty, staff, and retirees only. Employees of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, or the Applied Physics Laboratory should contact your institution’s Human Resources office for information about tuition remission and eligibility:
Select the correct ticket pricing during registration. If we cannot confirm your university eligibility, you will be requested to pay the full registration price for each course. Complete eligibility details can be found here.
Withdrawals & Refunds:
If a course is canceled or closed, the registrant is notified immediately, and a full refund is processed automatically unless another course is requested. Registrants who wish to withdraw from an active course must complete the online Odyssey Refund Request Form. Attach any documentation to support your request (e.g., medical documentation, family crisis documentation, etc.).
  • 100% refund: Prior to the start of the course and after the first class.
  • No refunds: After the first week of each course unless in exceptional cases.
For single-session courses:
100% refundable within two (2) business days of the event.
Please note, refunds apply only to the tuition portion of an Odyssey participant’s charges and are not applicable to any fees or gifts made to the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. Registrants will be notified by email if a refund is approved within five (5) business days.
ABOUT Haider Ali, PhD
Odyssey Instructor / JHU Adjunct Faculty

Haider Ali is a multifaceted AI/ML Engineer with a unique background spanning technology and the humanities. He currently works as an AI/ML Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton and is pursuing a Master's in Engineering from Harvard. His academic foundation includes a Master's in Business Analytics from William & Mary and a Bachelor's in Classical Languages & Literature from the University of Maryland.

As an AI/ML Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, Haider brings his deep technical expertise to impactful projects, where he continues to translate complex data into actionable insights at scale.

Haider's passion for the Classics and teaching enriches his professional life. He has experience as an instructor, sharing his knowledge of ancient languages and literature with students. This background in the humanities complements his technical expertise, allowing him to approach problems with a well-rounded perspective.

With additional certifications in Machine Learning and Project Management from Cornell University, Haider continues to expand his expertise, bridging the gap between classical education and cutting-edge technology.
