Can we have it all? Achieving Human and Planetary Health Resiliency
Both human and planetary health are walking a fine line due to eminent threats such as climate change, zoonotic diseases, population pressure and urbanization. Will we as world citizens be able to weather the storm and become more resilient to shocks that impact food systems? Perhaps. But our health depends on nutritious diets. These diets depend on robust food systems. Food systems depend on thriving environments. So the question remains, can we have it all?
Jessica Fanzo, PhD is the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Global Food Policy and Ethics at the Berman Institute of Bioethics, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She also serves as the Director of Hopkins’ Global Food Policy and Ethics Program, and as Director of Food & Nutrition Security at the JHU Alliance for a Healthier World. She is the Editor-in-Chief for the Global Food Security Journal and leads on the development, in collaboration with GAIN, of the Food Systems Dashboard.
