Course Description: Situational awareness is the ability to perceive and understand your role and response options in any given situation. It is an essential skill for project managers to leverage as their projects become increasingly complex over time. In this course you will explore challenging intrapersonal situations and learn how to thoughtfully approach conflicts with time management, stakeholder management, and effective communication. Course is suitable for non-project managers as well.

Withdrawals & Refunds:

If a course is canceled or closed, the registrant is notified immediately, and a full refund is processed automatically unless another course is requested. Registrants who wish to withdraw from an active course must complete the online Odyssey Refund Request Form. Attach any documentation to support your request (e.g., medical documentation, family crisis documentation, etc.).

  • 100% refund: Prior to the start of the course and after the first class.
  • No refunds: After the first week of each course unless in exceptional cases.

For single-session courses:
100% refundable within two (2) business days of the event.

Please note, refunds apply only to the tuition portion of an Odyssey participant’s charges and are not applicable to any fees or gifts made to the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. Registrants will be notified by email if a refund is approved within five (5) business days.

ABOUT Vanessa Akpore

Vanessa Akpore is an expert in project management with a strong background in science and technology. Her experience spans a variety of industries including Pharmaceutical, Aerospace & Defense, and Industrial Manufacturing. In her current role as Director of Capital Projects and Portfolio Management, Vanessa supports teams across South America, Europe, and Asia to successfully lead and implement engineering technology solutions for the manufacture of treatments for rare and chronic diseases. Vanessa holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) and is certified in Earned Value Management. Vanessa received her MBA from Johns Hopkins University and is looking forward to starting her next venture towards a Doctor of Engineering degree. This same passion for continuous learning extends to her professional and personal work. Vanessa enjoys being a coach and mentor to project managers and engineers to help them successfully navigate the many and varied complexities of the profession.
