Course Description: Step into the world of Arturo Toscanini, the towering conductor who shaped the sound of the modern orchestra. Known for his fiery temperament and photographic memory, Toscanini dominated the orchestral scene from his shocking debut at 19 to his final bow nearly 70 years later. This series will dive deep into his legendary career, uncovering truths behind the myths—his strict adherence to the score, his anti-Fascist stance, and his pioneering recordings with orchestras like La Scala, the New York Philharmonic, and NBC’s own. Join us as we explore rare recordings, historic moments, and television footage that capture Toscanini's indelible impact on music.
