Join fellow Johns Hopkins alumni to celebrate opening night of the Washington National Opera’s production of West Side Story at the historic Lyric Baltimore, where this beloved story of love, rivalry, and unforgettable music comes to life in a vibrant operatic setting. The performance will be conducted by Leonard Bernstein’s protégée, Marin Alsop, MacArthur Fellow and Director of the Graduate Conducting Program at the Peabody Institute.
Kick off the evening with a pre-reception from 5:30–7:00 PM at Sammy’s Trattoria in Mount Vernon (1200 North Charles Street Baltimore, MD 21201) , where you’ll enjoy a heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet, two drink tickets, and connect with fellow alumni. We’re delighted that Odyssey Instructor and Peabody faculty member Ernest Liotti, Peab ’80, will join us during the reception, circulating among guests and sharing reflections on Bernstein and West Side Story to help set the stage for the performance ahead.
After the reception, head to the Lyric Baltimore (an easy 5–6 minute walk) for the 7:30 PM performance, where our group will be seated in the Lyric’s Dress Circle Center, Rows D and E. Tickets will be distributed at the pre-reception or made available at will call based on registrant preference.
If you’d like to explore Bernstein’s work in advance, view Ernest’s previously recorded lecture on Bernstein’s West Side Story here, featuring an introduction by Marin Alsop.
