This dialogue will highlight U.S. foreign policies and themes from his newest book, Inside the Reagan White House: A Front-Row Seat to Presidential Leadership with Lessons for Today. Ambassador Frank Lavin is the former U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade and former U.S. Ambassador to Singapore. In the Reagan Administration, Lavin served on the White House and the National Security Council staff.  Foreign policy during the Cold War provided a framework for U.S. global leadership that endured long after the Soviet Union’s collapse. Yet in recent decades, Americans have expressed growing uncertainty about the nation’s international role—from Obama’s recalibration of NATO commitments to Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and Trump’s challenges to traditional alliances and trade structures. Is global leadership still essential to U.S. security and prosperity, or have the costs begun to outweigh the benefits? Has America’s reduced international footprint been a necessary adjustment or a strategic misstep?Light refreshments will be served. Ambassador Frank Lavin's Inside the Reagan White House: A Front-Row Seat to Presidential Leadership with Lessons for Today will be available for purchase at this event. We extend our sincere appreciation to Asia Society Southern California for itsinvaluable support in helping make this program possible.___________________________________________________________________Disclaimer: The perspectives and opinions expressed by the speaker(s) during this program are those of the speaker(s) and not, necessarily, those of Johns Hopkins University and the scheduling of any speaker at an alumni event or program does not constitute the University’s endorsement of the speaker’s perspectives and opinions. All event participants are asked to follow the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Community Standards for Alumni Events.A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events.  If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu.      While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event.
