This panel brings together creators who live at the crossroads of fear and funny to unpack why these genres are natural partners and how to make the blend work. Emmy and NAACP Image Award–winning producer Luke Kelly-Clyne (A&S ’10), Head of Studio at Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat, moderates a craft-forward conversation with filmmaker Josh Ruben (Scare Me, Werewolves Within, Heart Eyes) and veteran screenwriter Mark Swift (A&S ’93; Freddy vs. Jason, Friday the 13th). They’ll explore the shared DNA of horror and comedy—surprise, tension, release—and how tone, timing, and character turn a jolt into a laugh (and back again).Expect candid stories from set and writers’ rooms; practical tips on building set-ups and payoffs; guidance on pitching horror-comedy in today’s market; and reflections on working across platforms—from studio features to streamers and podcasts. An Aquarium Educator will highlight some of these less beloved animals and dig into why their reputations leave a bit to be desired. We will learn more about these animals, and how we could potentially help out with changing the narrative. Ask questions along the way, and have them answered in real-time. The entire theater has been rented out for a fun Halloween-themed night for our Hopkins alumni, family, staff, students, and friends as we enjoy a double feature: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982, PG) followed by Ghostbusters (1984, PG). Each vehicle ticket includes a $10.00 snack bar voucher. Please find the menu here. Outside food or drink is not permitted unless you purchase an Outside Food & Beverage permit at the gate for $20 (cash only). We'll be distributing fun gift bags along with Hopkins Giveaways!The gates for Bengies open at 5:30 pm and the first movie begins at approximatley 6:30 pm. Before arriving, please review Bengie's house rules. Upon entering, you will be directed to a parking space by staff members and you must be able to turn off your car's white lights or cover them. The movie's audio is broadcast over the radio. Please check your owner’s manual before arrival, so you can play your vehicle’s radio without draining its battery or consider bringing a portable battery-powered radio. You are welcome to bring chairs and blankets to sit outside of your vehicle. This event is rain or shine. Only one ticket is required per vehicle.
