Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations Lifelong Learning and Alumni in Arts, Athletics, Media & Entertainment

Join us for a captivating evening with Debra Khan-Bey, Peabody Preparatory '91, and Ron Beverly with the Staged Reading of a new play, Alone with Nina Simone.  Learn about the highs and lows of the legendary Nina Simone through music. Khan-Bey, Peabody Preparatory '91, explores the music, the mental illness, the loneliness, the revolutionary, the racism, and the abuse of Nina Simone. Alone with Nina Simone is directed and narrated by Ron Beverly. The music direction and original music is by Kenny Brawner. The event is open to alumni, students, staff, faculty, and interested guests. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the performance.

Nina Simone was one of the most extraordinary artists of the twentieth century, an icon of American music. She was the consummate musical storyteller, a griot as she would come to learn, who used her remarkable talent to create a legacy of liberation, empowerment, passion, and love through a magnificent body of works. She earned the moniker ‘High Priestess of Soul’ for she could weave a spell so seductive and hypnotic that the listener lost track of time and space as they became absorbed in the moment.
