Convent-ional Wisdom: Conserving the Women of the Book Collection

Sponsored by the Sheridan Libraries & University Museums, the Friends of the Johns Hopkins University Libraries, and the Arts, Entertainment, Media, and Entrepreneurship Affinity
Johns Hopkins University’s Women of the Book Collection contains more than 750 books, plus manuscripts and other printed ephemera, produced between 1460 and 1800. The collection bears fascinating witness to the lives of nuns over four centuries in Europe and South America, and will be featured in a forthcoming publication and major exhibition planned for fall 2022. Join Kress Conservation Fellow Laura McNulty for a tour of selected highlights, and learn about treatments underway in the Sheridan Libraries Conservation Lab to make the materials safe and accessible for research, instruction, and display. McNulty will also share some recent discoveries that have been made in the process of her work. This program will be presented on Zoom. A link will be shared in advance of the program.
