JHSON Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds: Palliative Care
Advance Care Planning and Equity in Palliative Care
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in partnership with the Nu Beta at Large Chapter of Sigma will offer a monthly Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds Continuing Nursing Education Series, providing an educational program led by top researchers from around the world.
The November Virtual Grand Round will focus on palliative care and feature Dr. Rebecca Wright and Marlena Fisher.
Dr. Rebecca Wright will discuss equity in palliative care and how to use the pandemic for program. This session will examine how the COVID-19 pandemic has helped to shed greater light to the barriers within palliative care. Dr. Wright will provide a brief case study of a similar example of radical change caused by crisis in the UK: the Liverpool Care Pathway, and how this has opened the way for renewed focus on palliative care. Insights for future research and points for reflection will be discussed.
Marlena Fisher, PhD candidate, will explore the health disparities in end stage kidney disease and advance care planning. This session will examine the state of the science on advance care in Black populations with end stage kidney disease and Identify challenges associated with the presented research in conducting research in the dialysis population and potential mitigation strategies.
The Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds CNE Series will offer attendee one CNE credit upon completion of each session, with the goal of fulfilling the JHSON’s mission of providing lifelong learning for health care professionals within the community.
The Virtual Nursing Grand Rounds CNE Series is sponsored by the Nu Beta at Large Chapter of Sigma, the Honor Society of Nursing. The Nu Beta Chapter was established at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1992. In 2018, the Johns Hopkins Health System joined the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing to become the first At-Large Chapter of Sigma.
