Johns Hopkins Medicine’s A Woman’s Journey will host a special webcast, COVID: An Urgent Conversation, Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 7-8 p.m. The hour-long presentation with live questions from viewers is free and open to the public. Featured speaker, infectious disease specialist, Dr. Lisa Maragakis will discuss the latest facts known about COVID, and coronavirus variants, that have emerged as the virus SARS-CoV-2 continues to mutate. Required registration is easy at hopkinsmedicine.org/awomansjourney. Registrants will receive a confirmation email that includes their link to the Zoom program.

Lisa Maragakis headshotLisa Maragakis, M.D., M.P.H. is professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with a joint appointment in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Senior Director of Infection Prevention, at The Johns Hopkins Health System and the Hospital Epidemiologist for The Johns Hopkins Hospital. In these roles, she is responsible for the conceptualization, planning, implementation, and development of the Johns Hopkins Health System's infection control and prevention program. Her research interests are the epidemiology, prevention and control of healthcare-acquired infections and antimicrobial-resistant gram-negative bacilli. Dr. Maragakis serves as the Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Biocontainment Unit and as Incident Commander for the Johns Hopkins Medicine COVID-19 response. She also serves as the IDSA Co-Chair for the 2014 and 2020 Updates of the Compendium of Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections, and as the Co-Chair of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC).

 

The Jan. 11 webcast, is part of the Johns Hopkins Medicine’s A Woman’s Journey series, Conversations That Matter, that airs the second Tuesday of each month. Conversations feature one or more Johns Hopkins faculty physician[s] in an engaging presentation and discussion with host Kelly Geer Ripken, national chair of A Woman’s Journey.
