NYC Fleet Week: USS Wasp (LHD1)

Batten down the hatches, because Fleet Week is back in NYC! Join fellow Hopkins alums and friends for a rare opportunity to tour the USS Wasp (LHD 1) during NYC's Fleet Week 2023. The USS Wasp is a United States Navy multipurpose amphibious assault ship, and the lead ship of her class. She is the tenth USN vessel to bear the name since 1775, with the last two ships named Wasp being aircraft carriers.
The morning tour will begin promptly at 11:00 am. Once the tour is complete, participants are welcome to enjoy the rest of their day and Memorial Day Weekend in New York City.
Please report to the VIP/Tour Entrance at 48th Street and 12th Avenue to meet the group for the tour.
Please note the following important tour information:
- Photo identification is required for entrance
- You will be touring a working Navy ship and you may be required to walk up and down ladders and ramps. Please, wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Do not wear heels, sandals, or flip flops. Avoid wearing necklaces that may get caught. Avoid carrying heavy bags. Skirts should not be worn
- Parents/guardians must be able to carry children up and down ladders
A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events. If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu. The fee supports the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association and is independent of the U.S. Navy.
While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event, including vaccination and masking and distancing guidance. Johns Hopkins strongly suggests that attendees who join in person be fully vaccinated. This is subject to change.
