Outdoor Explorations: Rock and Rope at Great Falls Park, VA

Join us and alumna, Anne Hobson A&S '12, as we climb in beautiful Great Falls National Park! A climbing instructor at Johns Hopkins' Outdoor Pursuits, Anne was the rock wall manager for two years. She remains passionate about climbing and guides trips with Sportrock, a climbing gym with locations in Alexandria, VA and Sterling, VA. She has graciously offered to accompany this exclusive half-day program at Great Falls National Park. A 30 minute drive from DC, Great Falls National Park is located on the scenic Potomac River. This is an event not to be missed!

To ensure the highest quality experience, we have engaged Sportrock to lead our adventure. Sportrock offers American Mountain Guide Association certified instructors who are also licensed Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responders, so we'll be in great hands!

We will aim to hike out of the parking lot at 9:00 AM, so please arrive a few minutes early to allow some time to try on climbing shoes and get your gear sorted. We will return to the parking lot around noon. No prior experience is necessary. Our guide will provide all of the climbing gear needed for the course. If you have your own harness or climbing shoes, you are welcome to bring them. Also, bring a backpack with plenty of water and snacks and sunscreen. We will not return to the parking lot until the end of class. Closed toe shoes and a rain jacket are required.

After we climb, we'll head over to The Old Broque Irish Pub, 760 Walker Road, Great Falls, VA 22066 for some snacks and beverages and to celebrate a successful, fun-filled morning on the mountain!
