Join your fellow alumni leader, Veronica Silva, A&S '21, and Thalia Khan, A&S '22 for an informal networking meetup at True Food Kitchen. This will be an opportunity to connect with other Hopkins alums in Pasadena to build community locally through small group conversations around shared Hopkins experiences and current personal and professional interests. All alums and friends are welcome!

Women of Hopkins LA offers regular opportunities to engage with, and bring together, alumnae professionals, friends and allies across a variety of industries and career stages. Through resource-sharing and informal conversations around professional journeys, pivots, shared interests and future goals, the group strives to cultivate a supportive space for network building, collaboration and growth.

Alumni and friends will enjoy delicious three-course brunch offering at True Food Kitchen. All Guests will be responsible for their own drinks!

 

A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events.  If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu     

While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event. Johns Hopkins strongly suggests that attendees who join in person receive at least one dose of an FDA- or WHO-authorized COVID-19 vaccine before attending This is subject to change.

ABOUT Veronica Silva
A&S '23

Veronica Melendez Silva holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences with an emphasis in Literature from Woodbury University and a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Johns Hopkins University. With over a decade of diverse experience across healthcare, education, and nonprofit leadership, Veronica has cultivated a versatile, people-first approach to problem-solving and storytelling. 

As the founder and principal consultant of Vero Digital Communications Solutions, which she launched in 2022, Veronica passionately empowers mission-driven organizations, small businesses, and women entrepreneurs to elevate their digital presence with intention and authenticity. Her previous roles, including case manager, director, Spanish teacher, and communications specialist, have equipped her with a unique perspective and a deep commitment to strategic communication. Veronica's expertise spans digital copywriting, brand messaging, social media management, graphic design, public relations, community engagement, and program coordination. She believes in the transformative power of communication to amplify the voices of underrepresented individuals and empower change-makers to share their stories with clarity and confidence. 

As a proud first-generation college graduate and mother of two daughters, Veronica is dedicated to mentoring women and modeling what it means to lead with resilience, creativity, and purpose. Her commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and meaningful impact is evident in her work with clients such as the Archdiocese, the SBDC at the University of La Verne, the ABC Collaboratory in partnership with Mono County (Department of Health), and the National Latina Business Women Association of the Inland Empire. 

ABOUT Thalia Khan
A&S '22

Thalia Khan is a communications expert, currently serving as the Communications Lead for Partnership on AI, a non-profit organization creating solutions for AI developers, deployers, and users that advance positive outcomes for people.

With a wealth of experience spanning nearly a decade in STEM communication, Thalia excels in crafting compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. Prior to her role at PAI, Thalia led Tech and Engineering Communications at Niantic, delving into cutting-edge topics such as AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Augmented Reality, and 3D Mapping. Before her tenure at Niantic, she dedicated over five years to leading communications for NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration Program at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Her impactful initiatives at NASA focused on educating the public about the discovery and characterization of exoplanets.

Thalia holds a Masters degree in Communication from Johns Hopkins University and resides in Los Angeles with her husband and three cats.
