Brought to you by Johns Hopkins Medicine – A Woman’s Journey on Hopkins at Home
According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, a new study estimates that nearly 90,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease each year. This represents a steep 50% increase from the previous estimate of 60,000 diagnoses per year. Johns Hopkins neurologist Liana Rosenthal reveals what is behind this increase as well as other important information from Parkinson’s disease research.
Liana Rosenthal, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Rosenthal completed medical school at Johns Hopkins with an internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She completed her neurology residency and movement disorder fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Rosenthal is the director of the Parkinson’s Disease Research Center’s clinical research, specifically the longitudinal and brain donation studies, which seek to improve our understanding of disease progression and the psychiatric and cognitive aspects of Parkinson's disease.
As the co-investigator of an NIH-funded study to identify biomarkers for Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's disease-related cognitive impairment, Dr. Rosenthal supervises all day-to-day operations of clinical research, including patient recruitment and enrollment and clinical assessments of study participants.
