Moss Landing, CA: Wildlife Viewing Hydrobike Ride

San Francisco Skyline, Hopkins Alumni

Sponsored by Hopkins San Francisco/Bay Area

Join alumni and friends for a 2-hour Hydrobike ride with Monterey Bay Hydrobikes. An unforgettable experience awaits you in the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Reserve – a very special place unlike any other. The remainder of an ancient river valley, it is the United States' first estuarine sanctuary and California's second largest estuary. Elkhorn Slough is a 6-mile-long tidal ‘slough’ (a tidal channel in a wetland) and ‘estuary’ (a partially enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it) on Monterey Bay in Monterey County, California. Just a 20-minute drive south from Santa Cruz and a 20-minute drive north from Monterey, California.

Sea Otters, Harbor Seals and Sea Lions are often seen as you Hydrobike quietly through its waters. The Slough is home to more than 340 different bird species and the largest Sea Otter population in all of California.

The Hydrobike is the world’s most popular water bike and very easy to pedal. With little effort, you can cruise at 5 miles per hour. Sit on the comfortable padded seat adjusted for your height to pedal – or stand up and stretch your legs whenever you feel like it and take in the beauty all around you!

Please plan on arriving 30 minutes early for registration and a brief orientation. You will be asked to sign a waiver upon arrival. This is not a guided tour and participants will be able to pedal at their own pace.

A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events.  If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu
