Celebrate the holiday season with the JHU Alumni Association at The Capital Grille in Washington, DC. Enjoy a fun filled networking opportunity hosted by council members, Stephanie Talton  and Joe Yoon with hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and the company of Baltimore, DMV & DC alumni in the fields of Government, Academia, Law & Policy (GALP). Don't forget to bring your business cards, social media, and professional contact information to share. 

Registrants can meet at 5:30PM ET for an optional tour of the newly opened Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center located at 555 Pennsylvania Ave before the festivities at the Capital Grille.

While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event, including vaccination and masking and distancing guidance. Johns Hopkins strongly suggests that attendees who join in person be fully vaccinated. This is subject to change.

ABOUT Stephanie Talton, A&S '02

Stephanie Talton is the Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) for the Office of Congressional Affairs (OCA) at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and has been the acting Assistant Commissioner since November 2019.  In this role, Ms. Talton is responsible for leading OCA, which is the main conduit between Congress and CBP.  OCA liaises with Congress, to include the Committees with jurisdictional and appropriations oversight of CBP, addressing the needs of the Hill to perform these functions, while advocating for legislation and preparing CBP executives for engagements with the Hill.

Prior to her position as DAC of OCA, Ms. Talton spent three years as the Chief of Staff for the Office of Trade, managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Executive Assistant Commissioner, including overseeing communications, executive secretariat, and congressional functions. Ms. Talton started her CBP career in September 2005, as a Congressional liaison, working on a number of issues including appropriations, border security, travel facilitation and cargo security.  Ms. Talton spent five years in OCA as the branch chief for the Field Operations and Intelligence branch, overseeing Congressional strategy and outreach on all issues related to passenger processing and admissibility, cargo security, interdiction efforts at the ports, facilities, targeting and intelligence.

Ms. Talton has a BA in political science from the Johns Hopkins University and an MA in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania.  She lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband and two sons.

ABOUT Joseph Yoon, A&S '00

Joseph (Joe) is a Vice President of Retirement Services with OneDigital. After graduating from the Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. in Economics in 2000, he spent the first part of his career working with advisors, and later transitioned to working with individual clients so he could leverage his broad industry knowledge to make a more direct impact. In his current role, Joe works with as many people as possible to build long-standing relationships that help them to achieve and enjoy financial independence.

Outside of work, Joe actively serves on various boards and volunteers and enjoys singing. He lives with his wife and their two young children, their two old miniature dachshunds, and his mother, in Great Falls, VA.
