Join us in Nanjing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Hopkins–Nanjing Center

Hopkins-Nanjing Center alumni and friends from across the globe are invited to join the anniversary events in Nanjing on June 20, 2026, as we recognize four decades of academic collaboration, cross-cultural exchange, and global impact. 

This milestone celebration will provide an opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni, reflect on HNC’s enduring legacy, and engage with its vision for the future.

3:00 – 4:30 PM | 40th Anniversary Convocation Ceremony
Nanjing University Auditorium, NJU Gulou Campus
The Convocation Ceremony will feature remarks from keynote speakers, university leadership, and distinguished alumni representatives, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the institution.

4:30 - 5:30 PM | Transportation by bus from NJU Auditorium to the Kempinski Hotel
Complimentary shuttle bus service will be provided from the Nanjing University Auditorium to the Kempinski Hotel for all guests attending the Gala Dinner.

6:30 – 9:00 PM | Gala Dinner
Kempinski Hotel
The evening at the Kempinski Hotel Nanjing ballroom will include an artistic performance, remarks from distinguished guests and university leadership, and a Gala Dinner featuring a traditional Chinese banquet-style dining experience. Wine, beer, and a selection of beverages will be available throughout the evening.

In celebration of HNC’s 40th anniversary, an anonymous donor is offering a dollar‑for‑dollar match up to $40,000 for the HNC Annual Fund. Gifts will support financial aid, experiential learning, and visiting scholars who enrich the Center’s intellectual life. You may choose to include a donation when completing your event registration.

Chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, 118th Congress

The Honorable Benjamin L. Cardin is a distinguished senior fellow with a joint appointment at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Agora Institute in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Foreign Policy Institute of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

A career public servant, he most recently represented Maryland in the United States Senate from 2007 to 2025. Prior to his Senate service, Cardin served twenty years in the U.S. House of Representatives and two decades in the Maryland House of Delegates, including eight years as Speaker. Across these roles, he worked on issues including democratic accountability, international cooperation, health care, environmental protection, and infrastructure and transportation.

Senator Cardin served as Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he focused on integrating democracy, anti-corruption, good governance, and respect for civil and human rights into American national security.

Mr. Shen joined the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) in 1993. He has successively served as Director of the U.S. Division within the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs; Deputy Director-General of the Department of Cultural Exchange; Secretary-General of the China Friendship and Peace Development Foundation; Director-General of the Department of Eurasian Affairs; Director-General of the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs; and Secretary-General of the CPAFFC. He also previously served as First Secretary at the Chinese Embassy in the United States.
