Advocacy Lunch and Learn: Identify Ways to Advocate in Your Industry
In Lori Grover’s March 2022 Spotlight talk, she discussed the vital role optometry plays in population health and the importance of advocating for policies that promote comprehensive primary eye care and increasing health equity by increasing access to eye examinations. In this “lunch and learn” style Spotlight Series event, we will go one step further and discuss how to advocate for public health interventions. Using eye examination/primary eye care as the overarching example, Dr. Grover will walk the audience through the different types of advocacy, how to identify an audience and engage with the audience in the most appropriate way, and how to ensure the language and action items include a health equity lens. The audience will have the opportunity to engage with specific examples and will walk away with clear next steps on how they can be advocates in their local communities.
Lori Grover, OD, PhD ’12, is an optometrist and public health professional. Grover received her OD from the Illinois College of Optometry and her PhD from the Bloomberg School of Public Health.
