Lunch with the Libraries: Conserving the Legacy of Abby Fisher

Event Title Slide

Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations Lifelong Learning, the Sheridan Libraries & University Museums, and the Friends of the Johns Hopkins University Libraries.

First published in 1881, What Mrs. Fisher Knows about Old Southern Cooking is a landmark text documenting the skills and culinary techniques of one of the first African American women to write a cookbook. The Sheridan Libraries Department of Special Collections acquired a copy of the exceptionally rare book in July 2020. Join JHU conservators and librarians Lena Warren, Heidi Herr and Jennifer Jarvis to learn about the incredible history of the book and its author, as well as the steps Conservation staff took to ensure that Abby Fisher’s legacy will continue to inspire researchers and cooks alike!
