Orange County, CA: Newport Bay Kayaking

Orange County, CA: Newport Bay Kayaking

Sponsored by Hopkins Orange County

Join fellow alumni and friends for a morning with the Newport Bay Conservancy! We'll gather at the Upper Newport Bay for a guided tour to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the area in the closest (and least impactful) way possible. We'll look for pelicans, terns and egrets flying by and maybe even catch a glimpse of silver mullet (fish) jumping out of the water or a stingray gliding beneath you. Our volunteer naturalist guides will begin with a quick Intro to Kayaking safety lesson and show you all the skills needed to explore again on your own. Be prepared to help carry your kayak to and from the water.  Tour time is usually a max of 2 hours (begins at 9am PT), including intro lesson, paddling the Bay, and putting away equipment. Minimum age for children is 8 years old - children ages 8-11 must ride with an adult in a tandem kayak. Due to limited capacity, this event is limited to 1 guest per registration.

While participating in off-campus events and meetings sponsored by the JHAA/JHM/JHHS participants must follow all public health guidelines mandated by the local jurisdiction and venue at the time of the event, including vaccination and masking and distancing guidance. Johns Hopkins strongly suggests that attendees who join in person be fully vaccinated. This is subject to change.
