Learners will discuss the concepts of ethics, the importance of ethical decision-making, and the useful role of Kantian ethics in policing. Kantian ethics refers to a deontological ethical theory developed by German philosopher Immanuel Kant that is based on the notion that: "It is impossible to think of anything at all in the world, or indeed even beyond it, that could be considered good without limitation except a goodwill." By the end of this session, you will be able to define and identify the elements of ethics, discuss the components of the policing ethic, and identify and explain the importance of Kantian ethics in policing.
