Course Title: Inside ChatGPT: Exploring the Science Behind the Bot
Course Instructor: John Hessler
Brought to you by Odyssey
July 13 - July 27 (3 sessions)
Thursdays, 6PM ET
Virtual via Zoom
Course Description: The launch of the large language model and interactive application ChatGPT created news headlines around the globe. It's seemingly human-like conversational style and ability to create text, write code, and answer complex questions made it a step above former chatbots and surprised both the general public and computer scientists. This course will introduce students to the science of the large language models that make it run and talk about the foundations of the deep artificial neural networks at its core. We will discuss why it is so good at human like conversation and explore the creator's use of a particular technique called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback that makes it so "humanlike". No programming or coding knowledge necessary.
