SAIS Stellar Connections: Alumni in Space, Policy and Industry

Space Force alumni event invitation

Join fellow alumni for the first annual SAIS Stellar Connections: Alumni in Space, Policy and Industry alumni event.  This is a great opportunity for alumni from the SAIS U.S. Space Force program, as well as alumni interested in the international space field overall, to connect, network, share insights and engage on relevant topics

Program will include a conversation with SAIS alumnus Dr. Nathaniel “Nate” Dailey, DIA ’21, Chief Strategist for Space Program Development and Integration at The MITRE Corporation, as well as updates on the SAIS Space Force program from Dean Jim Steinberg and invited faculty. A reception to follow.

Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided. Please RSVP by April 7.

About the Speaker: Dr. Nathaniel “Nate” Dailey is recognized as a leading authority on space-related international affairs, with over 30 years of experience in national security, aerospace, and policy innovation advancing U.S. space interests. A Johns Hopkins SAIS alumnus (Doctor of International Affairs), he serves as Chief Strategist for Space Program Development and Integration at The MITRE Corporation, overseeing proposals for space programs development, funding for branding, conference outreach, white papers, and Internal Research and Development (IR&D)—integrating defense, civil, and commercial efforts to enhance space capabilities. His pioneering scholarship applies behavioral economics to foster normative behavior among space actors—a vision of space control leading to superiority and subsequent strategic stability to unleash the future space economy, all embodied in the Space Force motto, Semper Supra.

As Vice President of the Space Force Association, Dr. Dailey often coauthors articles with USSF personnel for the Space Force Association Magazine, focusing on space domain awareness and cislunar security—expertise built over decades in DoD and Intelligence Community space sectors, including his tenure running the Acquisition Strategy Council for the NRO Director with space acquisition experience since 1997. A Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), recently invited to speak at Chatham House’s inaugural Space Security event, a Fellow of The Hague Institute for Global Justice, an Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics, and incoming Chair of the IAF’s Space Traffic Management Technical Committee, he contributes to the emergent global space governance discourse. His 50+ publications, including the Acta Astronautica “Moon-to-Mars Strategic Architecture” (2024), are recognized by NorthStar Earth & Space CEO Stewart Bain for their economic and strategic insight.

Dr. Dailey blends rigorous analysis with practical leadership. He actively engages with the Space ISAC as a Board of Directors member and the Cislunar Affinity Group and APL Cislunar Security Conferences; he frequently speaks at the United Nations, International Astronautical Congress, and now SAIS! —often moderating MITRE’s Center for Strategic Competition speaker series with luminaries like General James Cartwright, Joseph Nye, and John Ikenberry.

Holding a Doctor of International Affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS, two master’s degrees in public administration & policy from American University and international public policy from SAIS, and a Carnegie Mellon enterprise architecture certification, he blends technical aerospace engineering acumen with strategic vision. Residing in rural Virginia, where he volunteers with local land preservation charities and enjoys equestrian activities and family pursuits, Dailey remains committed to guiding the next generation of American space initiatives.

About the SAIS U.S Space Force program: The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) has partnered with the U.S. Space Force (USSF) to deliver a graduate education specifically designed to prepare officers for the evolving needs of this newest branch of the United States military. Under this partnership, selected Space Force officers, as well as other service members and civilians, study at SAIS in Washington D.C.—in an in-residence program leading to a degree, the Master of International Public Policy (MIPP). The program includes a combination of existing SAIS graduate-level courses supplemented by courses aligned with Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) requirements that meet the unique and evolving needs of USSF personnel, capitalizing on the school’s multidisciplinary course offerings in such areas as international security, ethics and leadership, and international public policy.

All event participants are asked to follow the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association Community Standards for Alumni Events.
