Miami, FL: Tchaikovsky 5 at the New World Symphony

Miami, FL: Tchaikovsky 5 at the New World Symphony

Sponsored by Hopkins Miami/Palm Beach

After her triumphant NWS debut last season, Gemma New (Peabody '11) makes her highly anticipated return in a blockbuster program featuring cellist Alisa Weilerstein. From the staggering genius of Russia’s most famous Romantic comes a symphony charged with raw power and gorgeous melodies. With the foreboding opening theme of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, listeners are launched into a four-movement exploration of fate. Technically demanding with an abundance of lyricism, Samuel Barber’s Concerto finds its match in Alisa Weilerstein with her “ferociousness of artistic spirit” (New York Classical Review). Umoja—the Swahili word for unity—is Valerie Coleman’s anthem for our world today.

Alumni and friends will enjoy the performance from Terrace 3.

A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events.  Ifyou wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu
