Marshall, CA: Bioluminescence Kayaking Tour

Sponsored by Hopkins San Francisco/Bay Area
Join fellow alumni and friends for a three-hour kayaking Bioluminescence tour. After organizing gear, reviewing basic kayaking instructions and safety procedures, we'll launch our boats and paddle across the bay to the Point Reyes National Seashore. As we kayak along the shoreline we will discover the myriad and diverse animals which inhabit the Bay and its shores. In addition to the Tule Elk, it is common to see harbor seals, bat-rays, leopard sharks, osprey, river otters, and sea lions. The area around Hog Island is also rich in wildlife and scenic beauty. After the sunsets, and the sky goes dark, we should be able to see the bioluminescence. Please note that bioluminescence is not always visible.
For this tour, we will be using tandem closed deck sea kayaks. All the necessary gear such as life jackets, paddles, and spray skirts are provided. This event will happen rain or shine. Please arrive 20 mins prior to the tour start time.
Please come prepared for variable weather. Even on warm days, it is usually chilly & damp on the Bay in the evening. We recommend dressing in warm layers year round. Bring clothes that reflect your degree of sensitivity to heat and cold.
Before registering, please look at the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Blue Waters Kayaking website. All participants are required to sign a waiver.
A limited number of spots are available.
A portion of this registration fee will serve as a donation in support of future programming and events. If you wish to not have a portion of your registration support such initiatives, you may contact the Office of Annual Giving: oag@jhu.edu.
