Lifelong Learning LogoCourse Title: Star-Crossed Lovers: Why Opposites Attract

Instructor:  Dr. Lynne Agress

Brought to you by Odyssey

June 12, 2024 - June 26, 2024 (3 Sessions)

Wednesday,  10AM ET - 12PM ET

In person at the Baltimore Museum of Art

Course Description: "From William Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers in "Romeo and Juliet" (1597) to Maxwell Anderson's tragic couple in "Winterset" (1935) to Leonard Bernstein's, Stephen Sondheim's and Arthus Laurents' "West Side Story" (1957; the "West Side Story" novel is by Irving Shulman), this theme of strong but ill-fated love persists.  The "other" or "opposite" in society is pertinent today and these timeless stories should spark interesting discussions.

The three books are in paperback editions and in the third class we will watch parts of the film "West Side Story."

Lunch at Gertrudes following the class is optional.
