Lunch with the Libraries & Museums - Gertrude Stein in Circles: Spheres of Life and Writing

This September, the Sheridan Libraries will open Gertrude Stein in Circles: Spheres of Life and Writing, a major exhibition exploring the literary labors and social networks of Gertrude Stein (1874-1946). Rare books, unpublished letters, manuscripts, magazines, photographs, and other archival materials—many of them collected and donated by the late bookseller and Stein bibliographer Robert A. Wilson, a class of 1943 Johns Hopkins alumnus—provide remarkable insights into her work and legacy. From Stein's early childhood to her studies at Johns Hopkins' medical school, influential years as an expatriate in Paris, and posthumous reception worldwide, Gertrude Stein in Circles: Spheres of Life and Writing demonstrates how the pioneering American writer fostered avant-garde communities in her own time and continues to be a beacon for artists, writers, and LGBTQ+ communities today.
