Sheridan Libraries Freshman Fellows: "Talking Statues" of Rome

Freshman Fellows is a signature academic opportunity offered by the Sheridan Libraries to introduce students to primary source research. Established in 2016, the program exposes students to primary source collections early in their college career by pairing four Fellows with four curators on individual research projects.

This session will be presented by Ankita Sen. Ankita is a first-year student from Princeton, New Jersey majoring in Classics and International Studies with a minor in Museums and Society. 

Ankita will be presenting on the “talking statues” of Rome, specifically Pasquino, and its role in aiding free speech against the Catholic Church in the 16th century. The prints, the Pasquinades that accompany the statue, as well as the background of the statue itself will be discussed.
